From the Director of the Pickens County Humane Society:

March 19, 2020

Over the past few weeks, the COVID-19 pandemic has greatly affected our lives, and we recognize that this is a challenging time. We want to assure you that Pickens County Humane Society continues to prioritize the health and safety of our employees, clients and the animals in our care.

As of March 17, 2020, we are open to the public for adoptions and donations ONLY. We will not be receiving any animals from the public nor any other agency until further notice. We will only allow up to 10 people in our facility at one time, staff included. We ask that if you have any symptoms of sickness, please do not come to our facility. We are only allowing individuals that truly want to open their homes to a new family member to view our animals during this time. We are trying to be as cautious as possible in practicing social distancing, as well as still allowing adoptions. Although we are limiting services in some capacity, the work doesn’t stop. We still have multiple animals in our care located at our facility as well as at Tri-County Technical College —who will continue to receive the same level of service from our dedicated staff.

PCHS has always had an exceptional level of care and sanitary practices for the best well-being of the animals and the facility. We have gone beyond our already practiced measures and raised our standards of care to be even more vigilant. At this time, we have added more precautions for our staff, animals and clients.

As we shift our resources to account for these operational changes, I’d like to thank our community who continually support the lifesaving work we do. We can only be prepared for emergency situations like this with the help of dedicated supporters like you.

The pandemic is causing financial and emotional difficulties for many people and small businesses alike, and this will undoubtedly result in fewer donations to PCHS. Since, PCHS operates solely on donations and fundraiser events, this unprecedented national pandemic is impacting PCHS’ ability to continue saving loving dogs and cats. PCHS has had many events canceled in March and April, as well as our new Market at the Mill, that has brought in several hundred dollars, thus far. These events are what help contribute to our funding for the year. In this time, it is essential that the community supports small businesses and nonprofit organizations.

Mr. Rogers said: “When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me, ‘Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.'” Right now, and always, you are those helpers. Your donations at this time will be crucial to PCHS.

Times now are uncertain, and we’re unsure of what tomorrow will bring. So, I encourage you to please give an urgent gift today, and it will go directly to where it’s needed most. Help us remain prepared for the unknown and, when the time comes, ensure our ability to swiftly and smoothly resume operations and help vulnerable animals who depend on us. YOU CAN BE A HERO.
