‘MobLand’ renewed for second season at Paramount+ after record-breaking viewership

Paramount+ announced that it has renewed its crime drama series MobLand for Season 2, after setting a record for viewership in its premiere season.

Season 1 of MobLand starred Tom Hardy, Pierce Brosnan and Helen Mirren, premiering March 30th. It accumulated some 26 million viewers since, becoming the streamer’s second most-watched original series.

“MobLand” tells the story of the London crime family the Harrigans and their loyal fixer, Harry Da Souza (played by Hardy), as they battle the authorities and other criminals in their attempts to hang on to power.  The series also stars Paddy Considine, Joanne Froggatt, Lara Pulver, Anson Boon, Mandeep Dhillon, Jasmine Jobson, Geoff Bell, Daniel Betts, Lisa Dwan and Emily Barber.

Paramount co-CEO Chris McCarthy in a press release: “With more than 26 million viewers and climbing, MobLand has become a resounding triumph – driven by the creative brilliance of Guy, Jez, Ronan and David Glasser, and brought to life by the powerhouse performances of Tom, Pierce, and Helen. We are elated to greenlight a second season of this global phenomenon, which has dominated both domestic and international charts and soared to #1 in the United Kingdom.”

Writer and executive producer Jez Butterworth shared in a statement: “TV was a brand new world for me and I was reluctant to commit to a TV overall, but Chris, David, and the teams at Paramount and 101 Studios, completely changed my perspective with their bold creative vision and razor-sharp strategic insight. Collaborating with Chris, David, Guy and our stellar cast has been nothing short of inspiring and I’m excited to dive into the second season of ‘MobLand.’”
